A Client-Side EDI alternative for 835 files
Both tools read 835 files in the browser without uploading them. Remitgrid focuses on remittances only: balancing checks, a denials worklist and patient balances, plus a 7-day pass.
Client-Side EDI (edifileconverter.com) is a good browser-based EDI converter that, like Remitgrid, keeps files on your computer. It covers more EDI types; Remitgrid focuses only on 835 remittances — balancing, denials and patient responsibility.

FAQ
Do both keep the 835 on my computer?
Yes — both process files in the browser. Remitgrid never uploads the file; you can check the Network tab in your browser's developer tools.
Is my 835 uploaded?
No. The file is read by JavaScript running in your browser tab; its contents — patient names, member IDs, claims — are never sent over the network or stored. You can verify this in your browser's developer tools (Network tab), or go offline after the page loads.
Is it HIPAA compliant?
Remitgrid never receives, stores or transmits your files, so no PHI reaches us. HIPAA compliance depends on how your organization handles the files and anything you download — use approved devices and storage, and check with your privacy or compliance officer.
Which files work?
X12 835 health care claim payment/advice files (version 005010X221A1 and most older ones), usually named .835, .edi, .txt, .era or .x12. Files with several payments, any delimiters, and with or without line breaks are supported. 837, 277 and 999 files are recognised and politely refused.
What do the balancing checks do?
For every service line, claim and payment, Remitgrid checks that billed − adjustments = paid, and that claims paid − provider-level adjustments = the check or EFT amount. It also checks segment counts and control numbers. Anything that doesn't add up is marked UNVERIFIED.
Are the code descriptions official?
No. They are short plain-English summaries written by Remitgrid. The official CARC and RARC wording is published by X12 at x12.org/codes, and payers apply codes according to their own policies.
What's free?
Viewing any 835 of any size, the balancing checks, denials view and reason summary are free. Claims and service-line CSVs and printing are free for files up to 50 claims. Pro removes the limit, opens many files at once, and adds the Excel workbook, denials worklist, adjustments and patient-balance CSVs.
